Everyone was quiet this weekend...
It's the calm before the storm.
Wish me luck today! I'm hoping to walk out with a brand new shoulder full of cortisone.
"Better living through chemistry."
Dawn, you're still rediculous. (Which is obviously how rappers and hip-hop artists say it)
and it's more like a shoulder full of empty promises
Hater.
Greg,
How' was the 5K run go?
Dawn, good luck!
Greg,
"DID"... How "DID" the 5K Run go?
Dawn, I hate the game!
Rich, I finished in 23:20 despite being congested from allergies. The fastest time was 15:01.
It was a good day overall. For their first event the people who ran it did a great job and had over 200 people run.
Did you do that Legs Against Arms 5K at St. Joe's, by any chance?
Just got back from the orthro doc. Visit was bitter sweet. Although my shoulder is choc-full of cortizone and I can resume my Wonder Woman status, I still need surgery.
About to bust open the emergency snack cabinet.
Dawn,
What did they say was the problem? I have a feeling a may be having the same issue? Can we get a group discount?
Rich- I'm going to do my best to describe this in layman's terms, so all you physiology nerds (JCB, Greg), cut me some slack.
The part of my shoulder where it meets my arm should be flat, but instead it curves down, which, when I raise my arm, makes it hard for the muscle fibers to clear it and in the event of a tear (which is what I have) makes it impossible for the muscle to heal on its own.
He can scope my shoulder and shave it flat. If he doesn't I'll be in the same predicament should I injure myself like this again.
Thanks Dawn!
Good explanation..
Thanks for dumbing it down for me ; )
Hey Dawn,
Docs pull that on everyone now so that they can operate. It's a load of horse shit.
Dawn, I have my views on the matter but don't know enough about the situation so no comment.
Rich, pending word from my Doc I'm down for the group discount.
Erica, I ran in the Cheltenham Phys. Ed Run for Jake 5K. It benifitted Philabundance and was in memory of a stuent who passed away from cancer. How was the St. Joe's run? I didn't know about it.
OK, not all docs pull this but it is alot more frequent.
Dawn,
We have a client that had this operation done. Doc told him 6 weeks recovery, turned into a year, wishes he never did it.
Dawn,
JCB may have a point! I had a back surgery gone wrong. Doc told me I needed the surgery. I believed him & had the procedure done. The doc left a fragment behind which ended up getting logged in the scar tissue around my Sciatic nerve causing me more pain then before the surgery. Every movement I made caused pain. Ended up Walking with a cane for 9 1/2 months before having another doctor perform an exploratory surgery where he found and removed the fragment. Next day I was walking without the cane...
Before committing either way, you should have a second opinion. Gain all the facts up front and make an educated decision.
Ok - that's my advice for the day...
Greg, nice time on your run!
Jeez Jason...you seem to be a bit cynical.
Definitely go for a second opinion. I have the name of a good guy and he isn't knife happy.
Dawn, Glad you're feeling better for the moment, bummer about the surgery opinion. I agree on the second opinion. Actually I agree on a second opinion for everyone who has surgery as an 'option.' The person JCB is referencing still doesn't have full range of motion nor can he lift light weight overhead pain-free.
Nice work on the 5ks, good to see running for a cause.
Greg I was supposed to do the St. Joe's 5K but ended up not doing it because one of my shins was giving me trouble. Glad your race was good.
Sorry Jeanette, I can be a bit cynical at times.
Docs are the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA through malpractice, maldiagnostics.
BTW, Doc D doesn't fall into this catagory.
Thank you Jason for that clarification.
Erica, if your shin is still bothering you then freeze a cup of water using a paper cup. Once it's frozen take the ice out and massage your shin with it.
That sounds like an awesome idea. I'll try it.
I greatly appriciate all the feedback guys/gals. How nice it is to belong to such a supportive community of injury prone people! ;)
My shoulder is still in that "gets worse before it gets better" post-cortizone shot phase. I'm a bit bummed that I couldn't work out tonight, but I'll definitely be ready to bring the pain this week. In the meantime, I'll take advantage of the healing properties in this bottle of merlot.
Spam- Let me know when we're doing the WOM.
I would also like to kept up on a date for the WOM as I just put up a 20kg KB snatch on my left arm which was one of my goals for the year.
Dawn, I would take a few days rest, light work and lots of laughter.
Demo Man Out...
JCB, you were going to do the WOM too, any particular day or time work better for you than others this week?
Dawn, I'm sorry about your cortisone-infused, now Merlot-infused shoulder. My lame shin is nothing compared to that.
How were your games this weekend?
Hey Erica- The games were good. Even better was I met the future Mr. Dawn McLeod thanks to my new www.pamelamacelree.com shirt. You have to get one!
Greg- Congrats on the snatch!
