State of the Art vs. Not

Good thing I was working at a state of the art fitness facility, one of which kind of looks like a night club in the evening, because my hotel had a not so state of the art fitness center. To be honest I was excited to see the weight bench in the fitness center at the hotel, thinking that if the kettlebell workshop ran over this weekend, I'd at least be able to do some dumbbell work back at the hotel. When I walked in to see what they had, I found this lovely set (and at the time only one was around) of adjustable dumbbells. Not to worry there was a really nice flat screen TV in the corner that could be seen while on the recumbent bike, treadmill, and one of two ellipticals. Thankfully, the fitness facility was open late and early the entire weekend.

I think I'll stick to my austere location. My bear friends may be in need of company.

When technology invades fitness.... Were there instructions? Perhaps a video based training?

Yeah, austere is more appealing for many reasons.

I thoroughly enjoyed the cartoon people diagrams.

I filled the slosh pipe. Had the hidden camera been rolling you would have all seen footage of me laughing hysterically at myself while trying to stabilize that thing. It's going to be a lot of fun!

Rob, can I add PVC cement to the ends and then cement the end cap on, it leaks a little bit.

Roger the plumber says:
If you are working it onto a threaded joint, get some pipe dope, or some pipe tape (both of which I have). This will make a nice water tight seal. I also have a chemical sealer (PVC cement) that plumbers use on PVC, but once you put it on you are never getting it off (if you never plan on taking it apart use this stuff which I also have). Call me we'll talk!
Peace, love, and happy plumbing

Pam,
I suggest going with the teflon tape, that way you can increase or decrease the weight... The CrossFit site says that they use different weights so I'm guessing they increase or decrease the amount of water?

I'll bring in my can of PVC cement. The temperature is what is making the seal on the caps break. If we can re-do it with the heat on in the gym, it should seal immediately.
One end cap has a threaded, removable piece so we can add or subtract water, so that's not a problem. If you want to do it today, be my guest. Otherwise, I'll do it after the 6AM class tomorrow.
Thanks Pam...and nice shots of Miami!

We have PVC cement from the paralettes, but no teflon tape. I think once we get that thing refilled we might keep it one weight regardless of how we seal it, the antics of this morning of me filling that f***er by myself would have been amusing for all to see.

Rob, I don't think I have anything scheduled for right after class so we can probably figure something out, especially with Rich and Roger the Plumber on hand.

I guess that's why I was inquiring about the hose...but you didn't have a camera rolling so no one's the wiser! My question for you then is how are you going to get the end caps off? I put a lot of cement on there the other night. Anyway, go ahead if you want...I'll be in tomorrow AM. I would like to try it out. That dude Dan John had some pretty interesting moves with it.

I think paint thinner loosens PVC cement. I have some PVC cleaner too, that might work. Unfortunately I didn't have time to fiddle with it today, but will tomorrow.

I just want to make sure I can be exposed to, and inhale, as many toxic chemicals before 9AM tomorrow. PVC cleaner, cement, and thinner...those should help the muscles in post workout recovery. If we fix it tomorrow, at least it will be available for open gym on Friday.
