Running Broad Street 2008 with CFP

Erin working with Kamil at this past weekend's Olympic Weightlifting Workshop.

For those who don't know... The Broad Street Run is a 10 mile point-to-point course that starts at the Central High School Athletic Field at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue. The course is a pleasing run past the varied neighborhoods of Philadelphia along Broad Street. It finishes inside the Philadelphia Navy Yard at the end of Broad Street in South Philadelphia.

The Blue Cross Broad Street Run sponsors the American Cancer Society, any donations and pledges benefit the American Cancer Society. The race will be held on Sunday, May 4th, starting promptly at 8:30am.

We'd like to thank you for your continued support. We know that running is not everyone's favorite sport, we do realize there is a lot of interest in this year's race. Therefore, We will be sponsoring any active and current member of CrossFit Philly in this year's Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

Simply let us know that you want to run this year's Broad Street Run. We'll have the registration forms at CFP, you fill it out, we mail in it with the check. Leave the registration form with us, do not mail it in yourself. Please only register if you are seriously interested in running the race.

Additional training for the race will be provided if needed.

If I only run 5 miles but it feels like I ran 10, does that count?

Pamela MacElree said...

No...especially if I have to run 10!

This is awesome Pam and Jason. Thank you!

Let's go. Who is on board? This will be my 3rd time. I shave off more time each year. It is actually fun. I promise...you will enjoy it.

If this 245 pound big tall dork can run it....anyone can.

Who is in??! Let's go!

Pamela,

Are you REALLY doing the Broad Street Run?!? I haven't done this race in a few years for various reasons (#1 reason, I don't like getting up that early :)
But MAYBE I will consider it this year.

P.S. You have no idea what I just went through to post this. I have such issues with the password. Aaaaahhhh!!!!!

SUSAN!!! YOU Blogged!!! WOW!

What's this talk about not running the Broad Street in years? Didn't you run it last year and then added another ten miles on top of it?

Pamela MacElree said...

I think they ran the Broad Street course as part of one of their 20 milers last year, but they didn't register for it, so I guess it doesn't technically count.

Of course my first post should have been more along the lines of "Only if I can run 2 miles and make it count for 10!" I'll never hear the end of it from Susan and Sammy.

I will train to provide adequate moral support for you Broad St. runners. I've never double-fisted coffee but I think I can do it.

Spamela- What is a Bulgarian split squat?

Susan- I need to be de-briefed on your research from this past weeken.

Your back leg is elevated, generally on a plyobox or some other similar surface, the front leg is out as if you were in a lunge position, and you flex and extend the knee.

Wow, Rich, great memory!

The way I look at it, why bother showing up for a little baby 10 miler. It's hardly worth the effort it takes to tie my shoes. Ha-ha. THAT was a joke. :)

Sam- you're hauling 245 lbs.? Wow!
I need new shoes for the race.

Can I get one of those cool space blankets after the race?

Sam Lepore said...

Yeah. 245 now. I was in good shape over the summer with Mountain Biking,Crossfit and a better diet....a much better diet. I was at 225ish. I will drop 15-20. Before May 4th.

O.K. Now you've sucked me into the blog vortex. It was the Broad St thing. I missed it last year due to injury and was considering passing on this year, but since there is going to be a Crossfit effort you can count me in. That, and the fact that I want to see Hurrey in the wee hours of her day is enough to inspire me. One additional little piece is that I can't wait to see Pamalation in action.

It's quite an honor. I'd like to take a moment to thank God, my parents, Pam, Jason, and, most importantly, Bella, for her unwaivering support, encouragement, and a hurricane of dog hair that kept me movitated through the tough workouts. This one's for you, girl!

I was very proud of you this morning Dawn! I could not imagine what was driving mommy dearest to to be so loud and emphatic this morning, as I lay sleeping peacfully on my new bed!

WOOF WOOF!

Gregory K said...

Red Dawn, Great Job. I wish I could've seen that this morning.

Bella, how did you manage to type on the computer?

RSR3 said...

Congrats to Dawn. That's great!
I was going to put in a bid to wear the 40lb weight vest on the Broad Street run. I know Rich has already expressed interest in carrying two 24kg Kettlebells during the race, and Sam is looking to stick a 50lb dumbbell down his shorts. Anyone else?

Gregory K said...

Rob, I'm in. This will be a good chance to try an extreme version of the Inman Mile.

bella girl said...

Greg, Truth is I'm actually a person, not a dog. That and I read minds.

RSR3 said...

I had to Google the inman mile, Greg...Hilarious article on a guy thinking he would get a Darwin Award trying to do it on a treadmill. 1.5 x bodyweight carried over a mile.

Sam Lepore said...

yea-- is that a dumbbell in your pants or are just glad to see me??

Great job Dawn!

Pamela MacElree said...

Thanks for stealing my line Sam! I'm glad someone said it.

Rich said...

Dawn, that's freak'n awesome!!!! Congrats!!!

Dawn said...

Thanks for the congrats, good people!

Next up, snatchin' 36kg. Methinks that will take me some time to get to. In the meantime, me and my new found strength will be snowboarding in Tahoe this weekend. Hopefully my new muscles will give me enough cushion when I bust my ass on the slopes, which I anticipate happening quite a bit.

Gregory K said...

Dawn, did you take pirate lessons from Pam?

Dawn said...

Shiver me timbers!

Pamela MacElree said...

Ahoy, me Hearties! Hornswaggle and Black Spot are no laughing matter.

Avast Ye...Friday, September 19th is National Talk Like A Pirate Day! So you can say words like, Monkey Jacket, Poop Deck and Futtock Shrouds, and have people look at you like you're crazy.

Gregory K said...

....I'm speechless

Rich said...

Um.. Pam, when you wrote that it was Wednesday February 7th...

Oops, Am I practicing too early?
